How About THEAria?
In an interview just now with MGM Mirage Chief of Design and Construction Bobby Baldwin about other matters, I asked him right at the end if they'd come up with a name for the resort that will be the centerpiece of CityCenter.
Baldwin said no, not yet, but he also noted that they THOUGHT that they had. Then they went to snap up all the trademarks for the name and found it was held by someone else, so gave it up and they're now back to square one.
The name they failed to get?
Aria.
Discuss.

I dunno... it has a ring to it, I guess. Kind of tells you what they're thinking of, huh? Something lyrical. Maybe they should call it The Lyric!!!!
Aria. Echelon. Encore. Like, have all the good names been used up?
And they didn't think that through well. "Where are you staying?" "The Aria". "Where in the area?" "That's right." "What's right?" "The Aria". "The Strip." "Right." "What's right?"...
Actually, I really like Encore. It has a certain nerve and arrogance and relationship to something -- the Wynn, of course. But these others are just so random. But that's what you get when you eschew the themed casino thing. You end up with names that sound posh but really don't mean anything, could be interchangeable. Nobody would ever stick Excalibur on Paris, but swap Echelon and the Plaza and whatcha got?
How about 'Arias'? As in Joey Arias.
Vrdaria?
Chuckmonster- How is that even pronounced? :)
Just like the Vdara tower at City Center, but with an aria. Vd-aria.
How about "Kirk's Gamblin' Hall & Casino?" Or, since it is directly west of the Planet Hollywood hotel, maybe "Planet Beverly Hills Hotel" would be good.
