It's the 1990s Tabloid Stars edition of "The Strip" tonight featuring my recent interviews with Las Vegans Gennifer Flowers and Mary Jo Buttafuoco! Plus, of course, the news of the week as mulled by us, a new trivia question, a new poll and either the Top Secret Tourist Tip of the Week or a new segment we've been mulling for a while.

Watch and hear us at at 8 p.m. PT. Or you can subscribe to The Strip (it's free!) in iTunes or Zune to get the latest show and various specials.

New Times 4 Strip/Petcast... & Johnny Chan!

OK. We're shifting the schedule, possibly permanently, to accommodate Miles' working a lot of weekends. So, starting tomorrow, The Strip is live at noon PT and The Petcast is live at 1 p.m. PT at LVRocks.Com.

This week's guest on "The Strip" is two-time WSOP champ and "Rounders" star Johnny Chan, who had a remarkable run in this year's Main Event and finished up 159th out of 7,319. The legend has some tart words for the corporatization of poker, is dismissive of Phil Laak's recent 115-hour poker-playing stunt and fondly recalls his recently departed friend, Bob Stupak.

Then, on The Petcast, we'll chat first with Stephanie Hoefener, a board member for Lifesavers Wild Horse Rescue which this week bought 172 wild horses to save them from slaughter. Then we talk to journalist Jason Cochran, who had a piece on WalletPop.Com comparing the costs of having dogs and cats.

Join us live at LVRocks.Com to listen live, see us via webcam and join us in the chat. You can also listen via mobile device. Or you wait for the podcast version, of course, and subscribe via iTunes or Zune to The Petcast or to The Strip in iTunes or Zune.

The Strip/Petcast Are Live Saturday!

We'll be doing our usual hours of The Petcast (two shows recorded together) and The Strip on Saturday 4-6 p.m. Pacific Time at LVRocks.Com. Listen live, see us via webcam and join us in the chat. Or wait for the podcast version, of course, and subscribe via iTunes or Zune to The Petcast or to The Strip in iTunes or Zune.

Here's the schedule:

4 p.m.: Barbara Techel, an author who has written extensively about life with her partially paralyzed and incredibly cute dachshund, Frankie.

4:30 p.m.: David Mizejewski of the National Wildlife Federation to discuss his observations of the wildlife damage caused by the BP oil spill.

5 p.m.: Comic Brad Garrett* and I discuss "stalking," hearing aids, old gay audience members, Patricia Heaton's politics and more. Guest co-host David McKee of the Stiffs & Georges blog fills in for Miles.

*Note: The full Brad Garrett interview will be available on the podcast sometime Sunday. Only about half will be played during the live show.

Strip and Petcast Are Live On Sat

I had said we might skip "The Strip" this time because Miles is away, but instead I've come up with a fun way to get through a week in which many of my efforts to set up interviews fell by the wayside.

Guest host Amy and I will do a new live show and play a classic interview that many of you have heard about but never actually heard: George Wallace! Yes! We'll banter about the week's doings and all that, but we'll also play the November 2005 interview in which Miles and I were treated spectacularly badly by the Flamingo comic.

SO... We're live on Saturday from 5-6 pm for The Strip after Emily and I do a pair of Petcasts from 4-5 p.m. Join us in chat and see us on webcam at LVRocks.Com or listen via a smart phone. Or wait for the podcast. Any which way, should be fun.

The Interview WILL Be Televised!

OK, not TELEvised, webcast. But with video AND audio. So you'll be able to see and hear Miles and me live with Elaine Wynn and Johnny Avello from the Wynn's NCAA Tournament Party on UStream.TV on Saturday from 1-2 pm PT via this link. There's a chat room there as well, but I gather you have to get a free UStream account. We'll probably start the video and audio running a little early to make sure it all works, fyi.

Also, FYI, if you have an iPhone, UStream has an app for that. So you can listen and/or watch us on the go if you wish. Awful cool.

If you don't want to go uStream's site, you can always just watch/listen right here via this nifty player.

Online TV Shows by Ustream
We'll play the audio on LVRocks.Com from 5-6 pm PT and I'll be in the chat room for that.

The Strip and Petcast are live TODAY

We're live 4-6 pm PT at LVrocks.Com for recordings of The Strip and The Petcast. First, it's an hour of the Petcast including, from 4:30-5 pm PT, a pigeon expert in the studio with some pigeons.

Then, 5-6 pm PT, it's a very presidential episode of The Strip featuring Palms owner George Maloof talking about what it was like to host President Obama's $30,000-a-head DNC fundraiser at his home on Thursday night and then Bellagio pianist David Osbourne telling some fantastic tales about playing for six U.S. presidents including for the past three at the White House. Amy will be guest-hosting because Miles will be driving to Carson City on assignment.

Join us live at LVRocks.Com from 4-5 pm for The Petcast and 5-6 pm for The Strip. Listen and chat with other fans. Or wait for the podcasts. Your call.

The Strip + Petcast are LIVE 4-6p PT TODAY

Yes, we are live today from 4-6 pm PT at LVRocks.Com recording all-new episodes of The Strip and The Petcast. Thing is, I'm still debating at this point which interview we're using this week for The Strip. Tune in, find out and hang out with the regular chat-room gang!

BUT... I can tell you that on "The Strip" we'll be discussing my visit to the Cirque du Soleil headquarters in Montreal and providing a preview of some of the news I learned there, I'll give some thoughts on "O", "Criss Angel Believe" and "Viva Elvis" from my on-going effort to revisit all Vegas Cirque and much more. Plus, there'll be a new trivia question, a new poll, listener feedback and, as always, the Top Secret Tourist Tip of the Week.

Join us at LVRocks.Com from 4-5 p.m. for two new episodes of "The Petcast" with Emily and me including a live interview with with the Animal Planet dude in the box with all those snakes. Then from 5-6 p.m. it's Miles and me.

See ya later?

The Strip is LIVE Sat w/ WAYNE NEWTON

We're live on Saturday from 4-6p PT at LVRocks.Com with the live version of this week's "The Strip" podcast. We'll play my blockbuster (no, really!) Wayne Newton interview starting at 4 pm and then Miles and I will record the normal parts of the show. Emily's away so we're using The Petcast time.

Loads to banter about including New Year's Eve on the Strip, Wayne Newton's show, Mystere, developments in the Wynn-scalper drama and Steve's reaction to Garth Brooks' amazing show.

Join us 4-6 pm PT to listen live and chat with other listeners. I'll be in the chat for the entire time. The next live episode of "The Strip" will be Jan. 23 because we'll be on vacation in Montreal, so come on down, wontcha?

Saturday, November 21, 2009

Petcast/Strip Are LIVE 4-6 pm PT

Sorry for the late notice, but we'll be live from 4-6 pm at LVRocks.Com doing an hour of The Petcast and then an hour of The Strip. Our guest on the Petcast is Beverly Washburn, the actress who played the little girl in "Old Yeller" way back when, talking about the iconic animal flick. On the Strip, we'll be playing my conversation with Bill Boyd, executive chairman of Boyd Gaming, in which he talks about the Mob, his regrets about Echelon and making a play for Station properties.

Join us in the chat and/or listen live at LVRocks.Com. You can listen through most smart phones even if you're not at your computer via the site! Or wait for the podcasts, which will be available soon.

The Podcasts Re-Emerge Saturday!

It's official! We're moving the live recording for "The Strip" to Saturday evening starting this weekend. Also, Emily and I will be recording "The Petcast" for one hour before that. We're hoping to move to Sunday evenings whenever LVRocks.Com gets a Sunday engineer, but for now we'll have a 4 p.m.-6p.m. PT block for two Petcasts and a Strip.

It'll be interesting to see if this shrinks our chat room attendance or maybe there were people, especially in other time zones, for whom mid-week evenings were unappealing. We shall see!

See you there? Reminder and more info on the upcoming shows will be posted on Fridays. The live shows are streamed at LVRocks.Com, where there's also a chat room and a live studio cam.

WAIT - THERE WILL BE SOMETHING LIVE!

Hey... I decided we should do SOMETHING. So we're playing the Bob Saget interview tonight starting at 7. I'll be in the chat room from home, too. The Saget interview was recorded in late May but then he canceled/postponed his concerts in Vegas and I never posted it. So we'll play that from 7-7:30ish. Join us! I'll also edit it -- I've not listened to it since we recorded it, actually -- and post it as this week's episode.

See ya there? Join us at LVRocks.Com.

The Strip is LIVE tonight w/Englebert!

In our quest to cover all the classic old-timers of Vegas lore, this week's show features our chat with Englebert Humperdinck, the British chart-topper -- don't call him a crooner! -- whose first Vegas shows were produced by Dean Martin and who continues into his 70s to perform around the world. Humperdinck talks about everything from Liberace to Lambert, recalls Howard Stern's playing with his hair, explains why James Blunt fits in the canon with Clapton and McCartney and discusses the fact that his rival, Tom Jones, has received a knighthood while he has not. Humperdinck performs in Vegas at the Orleans on June 11-14.

Plus, news from Vegas, a new trivia question, the poll and, as always, the Top Secret Tourist Tip of the Week.

Miles is back, too, so join us at 6:45 p.m. PT at LVRocks.Com to hear the live show or grab the podcast edition when it's posted by Thursday morning. Subscribe (it's free!) in iTunes.

The Strip is LIVE tonight w/ Marie Osmond, Part I

Really this time. Except that we're only playing the first half of our Marie Osmond interview on this episode because it's long, there's other stuff to deal with including the Review-Journal's annual Best of Las Vegas results, and our most recent shows have been very long.

Join us at 6:45 p.m. PT at LVRocks.Com for the live show and chat.

Also, for those of you wondering where the Anthony Marnell III episode is in your iTunes, something went awry with the RSS feed and we are moving it to a different service. That should all be completed later tonight and you should be receiving it immediately. I'll postpone dropping this week's show into the feed until Friday to let y'all catch up. You can also download it directly from TheStripPodcast.Com.

Anywho, Marie provides a good, lively conversation, as do Miles and I. So join us in chat tonight. If it's anything like last week, you won't want to miss the outtakes.

Sad But True...

...no episode of "The Strip" this week since we have no studio. We're going to give it a few days to see what happens to LVRocks.Com, which was bounced from its space suddenly last week, and then we'll figure out how to proceed. We've been spoiled for all these years by being able to do our show in a real studio. We'd like to keep it that way!

LVRocks is Homeless!

Our studio is getting evicted! Ack! I can't get into the behind-the-scenes stuff, but our broadcasting home for the past 3.5 years is moving...and we don't know to where or when. That means we're not recording The Petcast this weekend and probably not doing The Strip either on Tuesday night. LVRocks.Com is on the hunt for some inexpensive office space to reconstitute, though, so if you have any suggestions, e-mail me at TheStripPodcast(at)aol.com.

The Show is UP: Tony Curtis Revealed, Part 2

OK, this is a longer episode than usual, but it'll have to tide y'all over because we'll be busy working on Election Night next week when we'd normally be in the studio recording. So enjoy! Show is UP: The *%@& Bloopers Anniversary Show!

Sorry I'm late on this, but I got to exclusively observe a focus group of undecided women voters watching Sarah Palin's speech that was conducted here last night for a national publication and that cut into my podcast-editing and posting time. But here it is now! You can listen to it by clicking on the date below or right-click to download and listen to it whenever you want. Or subscribe via iTunes here or via Zune here:

Sept. 4: The &*#@! Blooper Anniversary Special!

SPECIAL EXTRA: EVEN MORE BLOOPERS!

The show you hear may make us sound like well-spoken, polite, erudite podcasters, but like many things in Las Vegas, that’s an illusion. For the past three years, we’ve been recording our show live with a listening audience of, well, tens, on the Internet. And so, as we did last year for our anniversary, we’re pulling the curtains back this week and airing all the behind-the-scenes drama. The curses! The chat people! The arguments! The Neil Sedaka impressions! The Steve abuse! It’s our 3rd birthday and we couldn’t be more thrilled, so sit back, relax … and beware.
